9 of 9 people found the following review helpfulANT BLOCK WORKS!, July 2, 2007 - By  engk916 "engk916" (New York, NY USA)   my new house had ants crawling around the front doorway and the rear door to the kitchen.being a former city dweller, i've never had to deal with ants, so i didn't realize the trouble i was in for. after only 2 or 3 days of killing random ants with Windex, i went to a birthday party and returned horrified to see they had formed a thick, steady stream making a beeline for my son's highchair! not only was i completely disgusted with the ants swarming over my son's chair and the kitchen table, those nasty suckers bit me like crazy. i dont know what kind of ants they are, but i was not letting those horrid things bite my babies!i researched ant baits and ended up purchasing the outdoor AMDRO ANT BLOCK. while i would love the instant gratification of seeing those little buggers keel over and die, i knew the only sure solution was to kill the queen. with young children at home, i didn't want to spray toxic chemicals all over my house or leave ant baits lying all over the house for little hands to pick through and explore.the box is full of warnings - don't use anywhere close to food or people, poisonous to fish, toxic in water, etc, etc.with outdoor only use i could live with that.the ant block worked immediately! the box says that it may take 1-4 weeks for the ant block to make its way to the queen to kill the colony, so i was pleasantly surprised at the fast results. i sprinkled a 1-foot area around the perimeter of my house on a sunday night at 10pm (knowing that there was no rain forecast for the week), and by 7am the next day when i left for work there were NO ANTS IN SIGHT! i bought a few ant baits to leave in the garage and noticed there were no ants anywhere near there, which means they were eating the yummy ant poison i put outside instead.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpfulDoesn't work at all, July 28, 2010 - By  reader "reader" (Portland, OR USA) This review is from: Lilly Miller 8150120 Amdro Ant Block 24ozI have carpenter ants that come out a path in front of my house and sometimes get in my house.I laid down Amdro Ant Block three weeks ago, and then watched every day while ants just marched right over the poison.Since they come out the same path every day, I finally put a whole pile of ant block down in front of the path.Instead of eating it or taking it into their home, the ants got annoyed and just moved the granules out of the way.Amdro Ant Block is expensive, and it doesn't work at all.I don't know if it kills or doesn't kill ants, but ants just aren't attracted to it.Each day I watch as carpenter ants AND smaller ants just move the granules out of the way as if they were rocks blocking their path.If anyone has any other recommendations, please let me know.Otherwise, I think I need to call a professional.I intend to write Lilly Miller to ask for my money back, although I'm not hopeful.

My apt complex sucks and i had more roaches than bebe's kids and a buncha OCTO MOM roaches. i asked my apts to spray and exterminate and their wack no swag exterminator couldnt do ISH. I finally got tired and took matters in my own hands and bought different products that didnt work. I came across this great Dupont product and gave it a try and BAM!!! BAM!!! SHAZAM!!! all the roaches got obliterated after two weeks. It didnt work instantly because its a slow killer, what it does is allow the roaches to eat the gel and bring it back to their ugly roach families and they eat this stuff like they eating sugar on crack. They keep coming back for more till they die, and voila after a while the whole nest dies. I have never been so passionate to write a review, and i promise ifyou go on this journey and get this product, you will be glad you did. I would stay up at night and watch em eat and HAHAHAHAH Got three four five laughs when i saw them starting to wiggle like they was disabled with that retarded leg stickin out. They didn't know what hit em.I would then wake up the next morning and see a bunch of em dead .now going on two months i have been roach free. I WON THE WAR finally on roach terror friggin osama been had roaches ha ha. Please comment and let me know how your experience came out with the product. This product is like killer crack for the wee-beasties.We had a severe onslaught of the little German Cockroach critters, and I was at my wits end on how to rid the house of them.I laid down sprays, motels and traps to no avail.A little research and viola...I discovered Advion from duPont.Extremely easy to apply and a little does go a very long way.Killing of the roaches started well within 24 hours of laying down the bait.I am talking a floor filled with dead and near dead roaches the next morning.For about a week, we had to literally sweep the floor every morning because the product is so effective.After a month, we see the occasional roach twitching on the floor or countertop...but the infestation is gone.No more babies everywhere and adults scurrying about when the lights come on.Buy and use this product with confidence that it works immediately, is quite lethal and is persistent.Happy hunting y'all.

Elliott "Don Juan's reckless son" (Atlanta)   If you search on the internet you will see lots of methods and products to kill fire ants.Most are myths forget grits, hot water and gasoline.Also drilling holes in the mound to put in insecticides, it is a waste of time and hazard to your health as the ant will quickly come out and sting you.Most baits don't work well either.I got this product at a hardware store after trying several other well known and well advertised baits.This stuff knocked out the mounds and ants in less than 24 hours sometimes 48 hours at the most.I had about 12-20 mounds when I moved into my house.After two years of treating the mounds around my yard and then the neighborhood - our block was fire ant free.I am now working on 20 acres of pastures on a family farm that has about 250 mounds per acre so we can put live stock back on the pastures.Just a teaspoon of this kills the mound.The mounds and ants don't come back.Please realize it takes time and effort to track down the mounds and kill each one with this product.It is also great for getting them out of the house also.Also please read the exposure warnings and use with this product.I use to have it on a bag on my lawn mower to treat mounds as I found them.

Elliott "Don Juan's reckless son" (Atlanta)   If you search on the internet you will see lots of methods and products to kill fire ants.Most are myths forget grits, hot water and gasoline.Also drilling holes in the mound to put in insecticides, it is a waste of time and hazard to your health as the ant will quickly come out and sting you.Most baits don't work well either.I got this product at a hardware store after trying several other well known and well advertised baits.This stuff knocked out the mounds and ants in less than 24 hours sometimes 48 hours at the most.I had about 12-20 mounds when I moved into my house.After two years of treating the mounds around my yard and then the neighborhood - our block was fire ant free.I am now working on 20 acres of pastures on a family farm that has about 250 mounds per acre so we can put live stock back on the pastures.Just a teaspoon of this kills the mound.The mounds and ants don't come back.Please realize it takes time and effort to track down the mounds and kill each one with this product.It is also great for getting them out of the house also.Also please read the exposure warnings and use with this product.I use to have it on a bag on my lawn mower to treat mounds as I found them.

But if you have a sudden outbreak, or a growing situation that you tried to ignore but can non longer do so, like I did, this stuff is magic. Does it contain boric acid? Hmmmm...no it contain Firpronil, a truly knarly looking molecule, which a bit of research indicates is a slow acting poison that allows roaches to indeed, like boric acid, return to their roach colony and nuke the others. That's why there are so many reviews online about this product not acting immediately enough to provide an immediate sense of victory. I did not find that it stained my varnished wood floors at all. It comes out as a fluid paste and then turns into a dry putty-like substance. My cat walked over it a few times in a place I of course didn't expect him to walk but he did, and the long line of it I had placed along the wall behind the folding chairs was not disturbed by his attempt to poison himself. Further research indicates it is not toxic to pets. If you have much worse roach problems, just mix boric acid with table scraps and stick it where pets can't get to it. If that sounds like a massive hassle, like it did to me in NYC, with my first major roach family squatters, then nuke with this stuff instead. Back when I was astudent though, I found one variation of RAID that actually made them flip over and die, on demand. Not sure if they sell that version any more. I hope they do.

Wattles "willbike" (Florence, SC United States)   I am really pleased to be able to control fire ants on my yard without using harmful chemicals. This product is considered organic because it is produced from a bacterial fermentation process that produces a toxin. My expereince was very good. When I spread the bait ants immediately began carrying it into the nest. In a short time it was all gone. The next day I saw many dead ants and almost no live ones where there had been hundreds. I just hope we can find a place to buy it without the high shipping cost.
